Unbelievable foreign policy

With ex prime minster Tony Blair revealing he cried for the suffering of soldiers and citizens in Iraq and US ‘Defence’ Secretary Robert Gates speaking of a strategic military breakthrough in Afghanistan to get the alliance out of an embarrassing impasse with regard to public and army morale, one has to draw the conclusion that leaders either believe a: they are very considerate war makers or b: the public is completely dumb.
In view of the fact the Guardian in 2006 revealed that Mr Bush had discussed with Mr Blair US strategic planning for the invasion of Iraq three months before the war started, suggesting to him that “diplomatic strategy had to be arranged around the military planning”, the idea of tears in 2010 seems somewhat of a lacklustre admission of error, communicating to both soldier and citizen the excruciating question of Government ambiguity regarding the real agenda behind this war (and other wars come to think of it)
To add insult to injury Mr Gates looks troubled that the composure of the American Military Establishment, aka US Administration, might be a little ruffled by any further delay in achieving the strategic objective of transforming an ancient civilization into a popcorn democracy by Dec 2010.
Let me see now, as I look into the Old Testament of Freemasons and the Lunatic Christian Right, what do I see? Ah, Joshua, the divine warrior, with God on his side, wiping out men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys – is there a difference in species when it comes to genocide? Is this a prophetic word for Warriors of the Cross of Jesus in the US who follow the European pathological type to the last atom?
When nations turn their ‘ploughshares into swords’ they reap the death of a truly liberal state of mind.
Mr Blair may wring his hands with guilt and Mr Gates insist on completing the impossible task of transforming a nation over night but the life of the Afghan people, and of Iraq for that matter, will continue as before, long after the troops have gone home with their tail between their legs. Just as they did in Vietnam.
When all is done, watch the BBC broadcast a narrative of victory! And Save Face, and redeem the noble and honourable image of war for history’s sake.

An old Christianity that is not Christ

Christians need to become aware of the ways in which the authority of the Bible over the centuries has influenced the expansion of diverse cultic quasi religious organisations, connected intimately with mainstream Christianity, that are obsessed with the lust of ‘military solutions’ to spiritual and cultural issues. The language, customs and belief systems of these cults draw on the theo-military narrative of the Old Testament, the old wineskin, which entails a long tradition of feeding European leaders, like Richard the Lionheart and Archbishop of Canterbury Baldwin of Exeter, with the raw meat of the crusading theology of theologians like Bernard of Clairvaux who appealed to the warped minds of Christendom’s rapacious nobility. The theology of justifiable war finds expression in the historical narrative of a plethora of Religious Orders who draw on texts in the Old Testament for their inspiration to make Jesus a null word.

Many of these cults today display signs and symbols used by The Knights of the Templar – who were a crusading horde of demonic knights that vandalised the Middle East for 200 years under various Popes and Provincial Emperors in the MiddleAges using Jesus’ name in vain. The Spirit of Jesus Christ had nothing whatsoever to do with the hundreds of years of military campaigns by crusaders, not even a little bit. The spiritual descendants of these non-Christian soldiers are active in US and UK military operations in the Middle East today, ensuring the incestuous relationship between Church and Military is kept locked together under the banner of ‘The Bible’.

Now two former employees are accussing Erik Prince, Blackwater’s boss, of wanting to start a religious crusade against Muslims. In an affidavit lodged with a court in Virginia, one of the witnesses said that Mr Prince “views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe.” The statement continues

To that end, Mr. Prince intentionally deployed to Iraq certain men who shared his vision of Christian supremacy, knowing and wanting these men to take every available opportunity to murder Iraqis. Many of these men used call signs based on the Knights of the Templar, the warriors who fought the Crusades.

Mr. Prince operated his companies in a manner that encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life. For example, Mr. Prince’s executives would openly speak about going over to Iraq to “lay Hajiis out on cardboard.” Going to Iraq to shoot and kill Iraqis was viewed as a sport or game. Mr. Prince’s employees openly and consistently used racist and derogatory terms for Iraqis and other Arabs, such as “ragheads” or “hajiis.”

The top commander of US and NATO forces in Afghanistan said Monday that Taliban momentum has been reversed in areas that had been its stronghold.
General David Petraeus also said that US forces would not begin an “exodus” from Afghanistan in July 2011, the deadline for beginning the withdrawl of US forces.

“You not only have to reverse the momentum, you have to take away those sanctuaries and safe havens that the Taliban have been able to establish over the course of … years,” he said, adding that “that’s going to entail tough fighting.”

He seemed to warn that the high casualty rates for US and NATO forces could continue. “When you take away areas that mean a great deal to the enemy, the enemy fights back. It gets harder before it gets easier,” he said. (Sources: Christian Science Monitor, BBC News, AP)

Intro Video
The introduction touches on the language of beautification that crops up in the way the human race tries to make meaning out of mass destruction. War is both beautiful and ugly to soldier and victim but both are civilians, the uniforms they wear is part of the sophistry of beautification.

They use a language that meaningfully holds as true both pre-emptive and retributive behaviour respectively, which they teach as heroism in their schools to innocent children who pass it on to their children and so on.

The narrative has a life of its own, like conspiracy theory, that takes possession of the carrier person it occupies altering the character of his/her identity along the way. Emotive words embedded in the narrative inject into innocent minds, unfamiliar with the nomenclature of conflict, a string of nice sounding imperatives like a mind altering drug that enables them with confidence to use nice words for demolishing the skull of another animal with the jaw bone of a victim.
New technologies develop new languages to obfuscate their frightening potential to do more harm than good, which are neither new nor progressive.

The relationship between the Old Testament Historical Narrative/Traditional Thinking and the Testimony of Christ is a great deal more than between just old and new ways of thinking. The relationship is a dialogue between the image that man has projected on God and the image that God has projected on man respectively. The consequence of canonising the two as having equal status to teach that war is divine is to guarantee distortions of identity of self and of God, and to negate consciousness of eternity – essential to the development of non-competitive social and economic systems that otherwise suffocate in war economies.

Tony Benn touched on this topic of political control used by rigid ideological systems in an interview with Michael Moore for his excellent documentary ‘Sicko’, in which he spoke of ignorance, fear and death as devices used by Government to keep populations subservient to the idea that only people with big egos, big wallets and big guns, should be rewarded (and those with no strong egotistical impulses to dominate and control labour should be classified as ‘a drain on society’)
Old Testament ideas about ‘possessing the land’ is symptomatic of a spiritual condition that negates consciousness of eternal values to do with sharing the Earth and all its resources equally without borders.

Our new type of physical world is obsessed with a new kind of materialism but this has not come about without the influence of an old type of spiritual world obsessed with ‘possessing things’. The possession of land by the few who think they own it in perpetuity is greatest curse on social development.
Jesus possessed nothing but his words of liberation and freedom, that set him free from the curse of death that comes to those who think they can possess God’s creation

Iraq war veteran kills family, then himself.

A 23-year-old veteran of the Iraq war shot and killed his pregnant wife, their 13-month-old daughter and three dogs before turning the gun on himself, authorities said Thursday.

Police in Superior, Wis., said Thursday that they do not know why Matthew Magdzas killed his wife, April Oles-Magdzas, 26, and their daughter, Lila. Investigators believe the killings happened Tuesday.

Tessa Buscko, a former colleague of Oles-Magdzas, says her friend was due to give birth by Caesarean section Wednesday to the couple’s second daughter.
Police Capt. Chad La Lor told the Associated Press that Magdzas did not leave behind a suicide note and that investigators have found no evidence the couple had money problems or was unduly stressed by the pending birth of their daughter. There was no indication either had been unfaithful.
La Lor said investigators plan to subpoena Magdzas’s military medical records to see whether he had complained of or been treated for signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Day of Prayer

CAAT’s Christian Network co-ordinated a Day of Prayer at the start of Stop Week in June. Over 60 supporters took part and raised awareness in their communities about the arms trade.

On the Arms Trade Day of Prayer on the 20th June Penarth CAAT Christian Network held a service at All Saints Church Penarth.

The service focused on the government’s continuing support for the arms industry and the role of the United Kingdom Trade and Investment Defence and Security Organisation (UKTI DSO) and Clarion Events in providing a platform for arms companies. On the 26th June Penarth Christian Network of the CAAT held a campaign stall in Windsor Road Penarth inviting people to support the campaign for closure of UKTI DSO and an end to its functions.

Other highlights of the Day of Prayer:
The Justice and Peace group in Corpus Christi parish in Brixton made a visual display for the weekend’s Masses and asked people to sign Demolition Order postcards.
Christian Network Co-ordinator Alun Morinan preached at the service led by Lesley Misrahi at Wood Green Mennonite Church.

Iraq Body Count

It is likely, though not proven, that over 100,000 civilians have died as a direct result of conflict in Iraq since the illegal invasion by Western Forces in 2003.

Various statistical analysts argue over the precise number but in terms of human value any figure over 10 in my humble opinion is suitable grounds for mounting a case for willful homicide having been committed by members of HM Government and the US Administration.

Justice will not be done on the scale required to bring sanity back into the human arena of conflict, because systems created by people who create wars are designed by them to be incapable of producing justice. See for yourself the facts at Iraq Bopy Count

Training for Peace and an Alternative to Institutionalised Violence (ed)

Glencree Summer School: …for a new generation
The Glencree Centre for Peace and Reconciliation’s annual Summer School will take place from 27th to 29th August and focuses on the role of youth in providing political leadership in sustaining and advancing peace and reconciliation both on the island of Ireland and around the world; it is entitled ‘Leadership for a new generation – power, politics and participation’. In an Irish context at least this younger generation have lived most of their lives in a post violence environment.

This throws up a number of interesting considerations: Do the next generation have the same prejudices and baggage carried by their parents who were essentially on a war footing in Northern Ireland? Will they have a broader perspective than the current political leadership who for the most part have existed in an environment of instability and mistrust? And does their lack of experience of conflict increase or decrease the likelihood of a resumption of old hostilities?

The format of the weekend will include panel discussions as well as an Open Space forum. Among the panel discussions for the weekend, subjects include: What kind of leadership do we need? What is the role of young people in creating change, and how do we move from a legacy of violence? The cost of attending the weekend which includes all meals and accommodation is €100.
